Tips for Taking Home

Ensure a smooth process for placenta encapsulation

Avoid the baby blues, feel strong and be the happy mum you want to be.

Here are some tips about taking your placenta home from the hospital…

1. Notification:
When your placenta is ready, text your name, location, room number, and best contact number to 0408 954 120. It’s best to notify me early in the day for easy collection.

2. Informing Caregivers:
Let your caregivers know you want to keep your placenta. Write this in your birth plan and have it noted in your records.

Remind hospital staff upon arrival and after birth that you want to keep
your placenta.

Suggestion:
Have your partner or support person ensure the placenta is taken care of.

3. Storage:
Hospitals usually provide a sealed container. Alternatively, bring a 2-litre container with a firm lid, labelled with your name, address, and phone number. Place the container in a carry bag, for more information – Expert Insights on Placenta Care

Store the placenta in a fridge or add ice to the container to keep it cool.

4. Collection:
I’ll arrange to collect the placenta from the hospital entrance.

**Pathology Warning**
If it is suggested that your placenta go to pathology, I strongly recommend declining. Sending the placenta to pathology can make it unusable for encapsulation. In my experience I have never heard of any benefit or valuable information received from this process. If this situation arises, please contact me. For more information – Rethinking Placenta Testing
